The foodservice unit of the Anchorage Public School offers parents the opportunity to allow their children to charge à la carte and additional entrée items in the lunchroom. We require parental authorization to charge up to a maximum of one hundred dollars ($100) per child with the understanding that charges will be repaid in full prior to the end of the school year and that finance charges will accrue on outstanding balances. Also, as a service, parents can place pre-payments on their child’s account for which their children can charge for items that they purchase.

Each year, parents must authorize charges by completing the following and returning it to Ms. Kristy Clark, Director – Food Services Director, Anchorage School. This must be completed and on file before the initial charge can be made.

Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP) requirements were established by the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, and further strengthened by the final ruling of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) in August 2016. It requires each local education agency (LEA) participating in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program to develop a local school district wellness policy that promotes the health of students and addresses the growing problem of childhood obesity.

In response to this legislation, Anchorage School has formed a School Health & Wellness Committee, which is comprised of the Health and PE teachers, Director of Food Services, School Nurse, School Administrator, School Counselor, Instructional Programs Coordinator, and parent representative. This committee works to review and implement the School Wellness Plan, as well as address a wide range of health and wellness issues. This includes setting goals for nutrition education and physical activity, recommending nutrition standards, and promoting student and staff wellness throughout the school.

Anchorage Public School participates in the NSLP. As of the first of the 2013 calendar year, the Anchorage Lunch Program was reviewed and accredited with meeting the new Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act (HHFKA) provisions. The tough new federal nutrition standards require that meals are healthier, well-balanced, and meet age-appropriate calorie limits.
